Katherine S. Walton represents clients in a wide range of environmental litigation, regulatory, and transactional matters. Katie leverages her strong commercial litigation background to represent her clients in environmental enforcement, toxic tort, citizen suit, and civil actions.

Katie has represented manufacturers, utilities, and other parties in toxic tort litigation, mass torts, class actions, permit appeals, and disputes related to the sale of contaminated properties. Katie also has represented public utilities and pipelines in Illinois Commerce Commission proceedings and on appeal.

On the transactional side, Katie advises clients on a variety of matters involving environmental due diligence, including environmental, sustainability and governance (“ESG”) issues and risk factors, and in acquisitions and real estate transactions involving environmental liabilities.

Katie also regularly counsels clients related to compliance with environmental laws, including working with clients to develop strategy for and oversee ongoing environmental investigation and remediation work.

Before joining Schiff Hardin, Katie was a litigation associate at an elite business law boutique and at the Chicago office of a top international law firm.
