As chair of our International Practice Group, Philippe’s practice focuses on growth, mid-cap, and large private or public companies, governmental organizations, and individuals in the United States and abroad in the areas of corporate and business law, as well as technology transactions. The core of his practice consists of assisting French, European, and other international companies in their U.S. investments and cross-border transactions, dispute resolutions, and litigation. He also serves as outside U.S. general counsel to a variety of European clients, providing day-to-day legal and business counsel in matters of all types.
Based on his training and international experience, Philippe can identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues arising in cross-border transactions and litigation for foreign and U.S. clients. He represents clients in multiple industries, including software and information technology, medical devices, pharmaceutical, chemical, industrial equipment, consumer brands and retail, food and beverage, and fashion.
Prior to building his practice in the United States, Philippe established the Paris-based merger/antitrust and commercial law practice for Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, a U.K and international law firm. He later became the U.S. head of the European Union desk of Donahue & Partners, an American firm allied with Ernst & Young. Transitioning into a U.S. lawyer, he worked from the New York-based offices of international and U.S. law firms before joining Schiff Hardin.
Prior to establishing his practice in the United States, Philippe had extensive experience in Europe, gaining a strong understanding of foreign clients’ culture and needs when it comes to their U.S. investments and litigation. A dual French-American citizen living and working in the United States, Philippe is a frequent speaker at various seminars and events.
