Schiff Hardin LLP announced today that G. Michael Bellinger has joined the firm’s White Collar Defense and Government Investigations Practice Group as a partner in the New York office. Bellinger brings more than 30 years of experience representing major corporations, institutions, and individuals in high-profile prosecutions alleging wire and mail fraud, healthcare fraud, and securities fraud. Notably, he represented the mayor’s office of a major U.S. city in connection with a state investigation.
Bellinger frequently represents clients in matters before the United States Attorney’s Offices in the Southern, Northern, and Eastern Districts of New York, and advises clients in matters before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice. His practice also focuses on internal corporate investigations, FCPA investigations, complex commercial litigation, securities law litigation, and employment law litigation.
“Having deftly managed many sensitive, high-profile matters, Michael’s integrity and impressive legal skills will benefit both our team and our clients,” said Maggie Hickey, leader of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group. “His influential professional network is a clear indicator of his dedication to his clients and of them to him. We are thrilled to have him on our team.”
Bellinger joins Schiff Hardin from Carter Ledyard & Milburn, where he served as co-chair of the firm’s Internal Investigations and White-Collar Defense group.
“Based on my interaction over the years with several of my new Schiff Hardin colleagues, I have always been impressed by their professionalism and collegiality and the culture of collaboration they share,” Bellinger said. “Because my clients are located in New York, D.C., and throughout the country, a firm with a coast-to-coast presence is beneficial for my practice, and I look forward to working with this talented group of lawyers.”
Highly regarded by his peers in the criminal defense space, Bellinger has consistently ranked on the Super Lawyers list since 2011, and he has been recognized on the National Black Lawyers Top 100 since 2015. Bellinger served as the Commissioner of the Ethics Commission for the Unified Court System from 2003-2008. Outside of the legal community, Bellinger volunteers to assist in maintaining the trees and land of New York’s Brookdale Park.
He earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science and Government at Tufts University.
